Spennymoor Youth Band Funding Members Poll Open - Vote Now
The Youth Band have been invited to represent the North of England at the National Youth Brass Band Championships of Great Britain (Showcase section) being held in Hull on 29 March 2025.
The band is recognised for their community work in the area playing at residential homes, Christmas markets and most recently performed at a Christmas Concert that raised £1300 for the Spennymoor Town Mayor's Charity Appeal. For the first time this year the 20 strong band joined forces with the Town Band and marched through the Town on Gala Day.
A recent survey shows that playing a brass instrument has many positives and benefits especially for young people, including increased self-esteem and reduced stress, anxiety and depression.
On 18 December 2024 the bands Community work, free tuition and loan of an instrument scheme was mentioned in despatches by the Member of Parliament Alan Strickland, something which they are very proud of.
The heritage of brass bands in the North East of England is significant and attending a National contest keeps that alive.
The organisation are currently around £1000 short of raising the funds required to make the trip and the Supporters Club have already pledged a minimum of £250 (the maximum our constitution allows from requests made at a standard meeting) however members who attended the meeting requested we reach out to a full members vote to determine if we could go further with our support.
The Poll will offer members the opportunity to vote on 3 options…
- Stick at £250
- Raise to £500
- Donate the full £1000
